PARTICIPANT CODE OF CONDUCT
OVERVIEW
The Tourism Industry Association of Alberta (TIAA) is committed to providing a safe and welcoming
environment for its events. The Participant Code of Conduct, the “Code”, applies to all participants,
including, but not limited to: attendees, speakers, sponsors, staff, volunteers, service providers and
other guests, the “Participants”. This Code applies to all TIAA programs, meetings, conferences,
seminars, and social gatherings, regardless of whether they are in person, or on-line.
Failure to abide by this Code will result in consequences of corrective action by any or all of the
following: verbal warning, expulsion without refund, banishment, notification to employer, notification
to authorities.
EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
Participants understand and acknowledge that they will:

Behave in a professional and courteous manner;

Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including the Human Rights Legislation,

Treat all Participants with respect and dignity;
-
Collaborate with consideration and respect, and discuss differences and critiques in a non-confrontational manner;

Respect the rules, policies, and property of TIAA and its contracted facility and vendors;
-
Comply with the directions of TIAA staff or event personnel during emergency response procedures; and
-
Report suspected violations of the “Code”.
PROHIBITED BEHAVIOUR
Participants understand and acknowledge that the following is prohibited:

Harassment, including unwelcome or offensive verbal, visual, or physical contact;

Sexual harassment, including unwelcome and unsolicited sexual advances, including verbal or physical conduct that a person would reasonably find offensive, humiliating, demeaning, or intimidating;

Disruptive or unruly behaviour, including physical force, or behaviour that endangers the health and safety of the Participants;

Intimidating or threatening behaviour;

Discrimination based on race, gender, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, disability or political affinity, or any other characteristic protected by law; and
-
Destruction, defacement, dismantlement, misuse, or theft of TIAA property or of its contracted facility and vendors.
REPORTING BEHAVIOUR
If you or someone else is being subjected to inappropriate conduct, please do not hesitate to speak with
the TIAA staff on-site. Violations will be investigated with discretion and confidentiality.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact venue security or local law enforcement.
